2024 Annual Tax Letter

I hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  This year I will again have two offices for your tax needs, and I will be switching between the two of them. For Minnesota clients I will be at 1428 N 3rd Str, Minneapolis, MN 55411 (Uptown Imports Building; If locked call (evenings and weekend).  In Bismarck call me to schedule an appointment.  If you are mailing, the address for both offices is located at the top of this letter AND THE MAILBOX IS SECURE SO REGULAR MAIL IS FINE, if you are worried about the mail use priority which is tracked (can do at usps.com).  I also have a secure portal to upload files and input sensitive information – the email will come from mytaxprepoffice, it will than walk you thru a verification process (old address and loans answer no if your information is not displayed. Call for hours to drop off as I have set hours for appointments in Minneapolis but not in Bismarck. I am in the office outside of the hours for appointments at both locations.

 I need to know if have a secure mailbox, if not for your safety I will require a signature on the return.

Last year’s mileage for business is 0.65.5; Medical/Moving is 0.22 and 0.14 for charitable organizations. 2024 mileage rate will be 0.67 for business, and 0.14 for charitable; Medical/ Moving is 0.21.  For 2023 business meals are 50% deductible.  The child tax credit and dependent are the same as 2022.  The above line charitable donation above “the line” is gone for the state of Minnesota but may be deductible as a state itemized deduction.  The state of Minnesota does allow for some unreimbursed business expenses – this may allow you to itemize on Minnesota (follows old federal guidelines mostly (North Dakota follows federal law).  There some major changes in energy (BRING RECEIPTS) credit area, new is a 7500 refundable credit on EV but need to watch income limit as if you are $1 over you owe the 7500 back – if used to pay down payment on car.

Remember to bring the closing documents on all new home purchases and on any refinances, you have done.  Section 179 was extended for 2015 and beyond.

IF YOU GOT YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE FROM THE EXCHANGE, I WILL ABSOLUTELY NEED THE 1095 FORM YOU GOT.  All others please bring the form if you have it.

Mortgage and Bank Letters:

If you need a letter to a bank or mortgage company for any purpose, please sign and fax that authorization to me as soon as you know you will need one.  Be proactive and ask if you will need it as you can fax it up front and it will save time having to request one from you.
